I know things have been pretty quiet around here lately. Sorry about that. Life is spinning and I’m trying to keep up (not sure I’m doing such a great job either).
We are on Week 4 of school (I believe) and things seem to be going good, for the most part. J is working through My Father’s World Ancient History & Literature. This is our first year with MFW and we are having a hard time keeping up with all the reading…and life too. But I’m confident we’ll get there. As I was looking over his work last night I was very excited to see all he is learning! He is doing very well overall!
This is what high school looks like! (Actually…this isn’t even close to all of them!)
Our lil guy (P)…well, I’m not sure how things are going with him. I kind of took a little time off. He’s doing My Father’s World Kindergarten and seems to be doing good with it but it LITERALLY takes us about 15 minutes to get through the entire lesson (he is SO FAST!). But, when asked the next day about what we covered the previous day…he knows it – so he must be paying attention…he’s just FAST!
Here are his Day 1 and Day 2 of Creation pages.
If you’ve read my blog much, you know that we are one of many suffering a financial hardship. However the Lord has blessed me with a part-time (30 hours a week) job working at a dog daycare / boarding facility. My exact start date is still being worked out. She wanted me to start this week but it’s tough on the schedule. But the training guy is on vacation next week. So, it may be the following week. We could use the money so I may have to work some things out for this week. Guess we’ll see – I’m still waiting to hear back from them. Regardless, the Lord has provided a source of income and we areĀ GRATEFUL!
J’s 16th birthday is Wednesday so I’ve been working on his party plans for Saturday. EXCITED! He is in Drivers Ed at the local High School and has been doing well. They will be taking the permit test Thursday…he’s pumped and ready! Here in IL they have to have their permit for nine months, no matter what, before they can get their drivers license so it will be a little while before we get to that point. He will have to do a minimum of 50 hours driving with 10 at night to obtain his license as well (this is all I know so far)…but we don’t expect this to be a problem. Personally – I am READY for him to drive! I’m ready for HIM to go to the gas station at 9:30 at night to get his own milk! *grin* I would also like to say that we will all be very excited when this class is over! We chose to go with the high school because it was SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper ($80 vs $400) but going every day, in the morning…kind of a pain. (But we wouldn’t trade it for the alternative.)
Since most folks and homeschool groups are getting started for the year again, everyone is planning field trips. I’ve been trying to stay on top of all of these and put us in for the ones that fit our schedule and would benefit our family. We’re going to a Holocaust field trip in a couple weeks that I am really excited about.
I did have J signed up for a Speech class (did you know that the HSLDA started a competitive speech / debate “club”? I didn’t either, until now! check them out! NCFCA). Anyway, with the p/t job I had to remove him from that class…we just can’t fit it all in. Maybe next year – we’ll see what the Lord has planned.
Well, that’s the majority of the craziness around this place. Thanks for hanging out with me and feel free to share how things are going with your family since you started back up for the year!
