I seriously have no words that can properly explain everything awesome about this book. The author, Hope Auer, is a young Christian woman who has an overwhelmingly amazing writing talent! A Cry From Egypt is a story like no other I have read. It gives the Biblical account of the Plagues of Egypt from the SLAVES perspective (something I have actually never even thought about until reading this book).

I am very cautious about books that become fictional of what the Bible says – as I don’t want the true meaning of the Bible to get lost. This book is NOTHING like that. Although it is a fictional book, it doesn’t try to twist what the Bible says…it actually simply covers an entirely different perspective – it’s really quite amazing!

This book is one of I don’t know how many to come of “The Promised Land” series. (The first Chapter of the second book is actually included!) It covers the life of a young slave girl named Jarah and her family. The story is very full of “tentacles” that take you this way and that ~ for instance, mom and dad are of two different religions, brother is in love with a slave that works in the palace who is promised to another…and many other things. The descriptive qualities are amazing and you feel as if you are right there with the characters – which is both good and “bad” (the whipping scenes are hard to handle, but are a definite necessary part).

I really enjoyed this book – I would HIGHLY recommend it to others!

I learned that It gives the Biblical account of the Plagues of Egypt from the SLAVES perspective — I am not of fiction books either that twist the Bible.

I love biblical historical fiction and learned that you did your best to stay true to the Scriptures as well as draw the reader in to keep their interest! Thank you!

Hope Auer is a good friend of mine, and not only is she a talented writer, she is also a very dedicated writer. I believe one of the main reasons that the biblical fiction aspect came off so well is due to hours of diligent study, as well as seeking out counsel from those around her.

I would love this read to give to my children. I homeschool 2 of my three boys. They would really love reading this book. My oldest loves history and reading the Bible, this would be great for him to read. Also coming from a homeschooler it would show my children that you can truely do what you want. Thanks

This book sounds too good to be true. I would love to share this with my teens, and get them thinking more about the stories in the Bible.Thank you for sharing the info for this book.

I love how Hope has been sharing helpful hints about how to write short stories. I think her hint about having less than twelve characters per short story is particarly valuable. First because it helps the author focus on the important parts of the story and the readers don’t feel like they are drowning in a sea of characters. : )

I thought it was really interesting to read about the route she took to get published and that she was able to keep her copyright and staying in charge of advertising and other important decisions instead of letting a large company take over her book and series.

I appreciated her post on being “too humble” in the publishing world–it applies to so much of life! The key is to stay focused on Christ and stay humble compared to HIM. Wow. Can’t wait to read some of her fiction–what I know about the author so far I like :)

I learned that it’s a good idea to limit the characters in a story. Focusing on a few is better than having too many.
