Book Review & Giveaway ~ Moonfinder by Jay Ryan

Author: Jay Ryan
Hardback, 32 pages
Retail $15.00

I had the pleasure of reviewing a really neat book about the moon and it’s stages by Jay Ryan called Moonfinder. You might recognize the author name as he is the same one that produces the Celestial Almanac we love so much! Well, Moonfinder is a picture book geared toward younger kids but is definitely a book the entire family will enjoy! It is the story of a father and his son and the phases of the moon and how it looks during the month, and what it is doing. It is very educational, but yet a very enjoyable read!

Here is an example of some of the amazing pictures in the book – which Jay did as well! This book took over ten years to get published and the paintings were done over a two year span. This book truly is amazing, in more ways that one!

I know even I enjoyed reading this book and learning all it has to share. It is a book I would highly recommend to others. So, now you can run off to buy your own copy HERE or you can enter my giveaway below.

Product Review & Giveaway ~ DaySpring Tote Bag

We’ve all heard of DaySpring, right? Well, did you know they have more than cards? LOTS more than cards! I was blessed with the opportunity to do a tote bag review and all I can say is I AM *VERY* IMPRESSED! I’ve been thinking over the last several months that I needed a new “Bible bag” (what I carry my Bible and the many other things I take to meeting each week) because my other one was getting pretty raggity looking. And, so, the Lord provided a new “Bible bag” through this review. My DaySpring Tote Bag is now my “Bible bag” and I LOVE IT! It is not only beautiful to look at but VERY FUNCTIONAL in the fact that it is big enough to hold all the items I need (plus some!).

I actually have used it several times for other things too – once as a swimming bag and another to carry all the library books back to the library. And both times this thing held up to the task and looked amazing doing it! Here is a picture of my tote bag:

And here is a picture of the amazing bag I get to offer to one of my readers! These bags are HUGE (14 x 18) and this one will be especially good for swimming items, in my opinion. If you can’t wait to get one for yourself, you can buy one for $16.99 HERE. Otherwise enter my giveaway below.

Management Monday ~ 6/18/12

Management Monday is starting again! I’ve weighed myself this morning but don’t have the proper type of measuring tape so haven’t measured. Hope to get one so I can start.

I lost 2 lbs last week, which actually seems small as often times I’ll loose more – water weight ya know. BUT that’s ok. It’s better than not loosing anything, right? So, my plans for this week – for the next several weeks – is to simply continue the changes I’ve already made…I am working on a habit change and want to make sure it sticks.

So…decaf coffee, one diet soda and one dessert a day. These are my plans for this week. What are your plans?

If you would like to join in and share your story too – please grab the button and enjoy this journey with me!

Pet Blogger Hop ~ My First!

This is my first time joining in on the Saturday Pet Blogger Hop over at Two Little Cavaliers and I am SO EXCITED to share our wonderful pets with everyone! I have shared about each of them over the time I’ve been blogging but here is a post with all of them together.

So…meet the family:

These are our Havanese, Cajun (left) and Jazz (right). Havanese are kind of a rare breed but they are WONDERFUL family dogs. They LOVE to be near their people and are happy little “non-shedding” dogs. They are actually long haired dogs but they are sporting their somewhat grown out “summer cuts”.

And..these are our cats, Joey (left) and Omega (right). Both are mixed breeds. We rescued Joey from a place in St Louis. He is such an AWESOME cat, we are SO GLAD someone took him off the streets so he could find a home with us!

So, what do you think? We think they bring a TON of laughter and joy to our lives and are so thankful to the Lord for allowing them to bless us with their presence. *grin*

The Homeschool Mother’s Journal ~ 6/15/12

The Homeschool Mother's Journal
This post is linked to The Homeschool Mother’s Journal over at iHomeschool Network.
Make sure you hop over to see what other homeschool mom’s have to say!

In my life this week...oldest son did a 4H Dairy presentation with some kids and we went swimming, other than that it was a pretty normal week.

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share...don’t look at others to make decisions for your family.

I am inspired by…Titus 2 women.

Places we are going and people we are seeing...this evening we are having supper with some family we haven’t seen in awhile – should be a good evening.

My favorite thing this week was…the birth of our cousins twins. They had a safe arrival. YAY!

What’s working/not working for us…we are too wrapped up in “summer” and not getting any schoolwork done. :)

I’m reading…Proverbs 31 (with an online study group), Reshaping It All, Raising a Spirited Child Workbook.

I’m grateful for…my husband and his constant loving attitude.

I’m praying for…so many people! So many are going thru trials right now!

Making Life Better ~ The Proper Tools

I was making homemade biscuits this morning, as I often do, but this morning I had some new utensils that made my job SO MUCH EASIER! I have been making homemade biscuits for several months now but I have been using knives to criss-cross cut and a glass as my biscuit cutter. Worked for me!

Then as time went and I continued to make them I thought I would invest in a couple of items that might make it easier: a pastry blender and a set of biscuit cutters.

I also got a set of four items: Spiral Whisk, Slotted Server, Ladle and Masher. So when making biscuits and gravy this morning I got to use the pastry blender, biscuit cutters and the spiral whisk…let’s just say – making biscuits and gravy has never been so easy, AND FUN! It’s amazing how having the right tools can make things SO MUCH BETTER!

This led me to thinking about the Lord and the tool (Bible) He provides for us – to help make life SO MUCH BETTER. By reading the Bible and knowing God’s word, it helps to guide and direct and makes decisions a bit easier. Not only that but when you make a decision, based off His instruction, the outcome is SO MUCH BETTER!

I went almost 30 years of my life without any direction and I made  A LOT of really bad decisions…why? Because I wasn’t given any “tools” to make good decisions. But now, I think about what the Lord says about things and then I make a move. Knowing I’ve done that helps me to know I am walking in the right direction.

I think one of the biggest things that has changed from having God’s tool is the PEACE I get from reading His word and knowing His desires for me and my life. He wants what’s best for my family – of that I am sure. However, that doesn’t mean everything is going to be easy. As a matter of fact, the Bible says life for the believer will have more challenges than that of the non-believer. But, we have peace through Him and that makes the challenges okay too.

One of the things that is “funny” is…all of these things (pastry blender, biscuit cutter, whisk and the Bible) seem like such little, insignificant things…but in the end – they make a HUGE difference in the process! They make things SO MUCH easier, and so much more enjoyable, that one wonders why they waited so long to utilize them!

Do you read God’s word daily? If not, try it! His tool is there to help us, every single day.

Have a wonderfully blessed day!
