TOS Crew Review ~ Latin Alive!

Photobucket
We had the opportunity to review Latin Alive! (for junior / high school students)…

Photobucket

…and here is what we think of it…

WONDERFULLY, AMAZINGLY, AWESOME!!!

The Lord truly saw a desire within our family and filled that need with this!!  We tried a different Latin curriculum earlier this year, and decided to put it off until next year.  We also had the opportunity to review another Latin item that was more of a supplemental piece.  The supplemental piece worked better for us than the first curriculum but it wouldn’t have been enough to really work with.  So, when we got this curriculum, I was SO EXCITED to open it up and check it out!

Let’s just say WE WERE NOT LET DOWN!

We were provided the entire Latin Alive! 1 Bundle that included the student book, teacher book, instructional DVD & CD set.  As someone new to Latin – we *HIGHLY RECOMMEND* the instructional DVDs!  Karen Moore is the instructor on the DVDs and she does it very well!  She is funny and doesn’t seem to have any funny quirks or little irritations.

I am actually literally doing this with ds14 and we are both GREATLY enjoying it!

For us, we like this program because it does exactly what the name says – it brings Latin alive!  It shows how it is still seen and used A LOT still today, and how a lot of the English language came from Latin.  This curriculum is not simply looking at Latin words – although it is definately that – but is is so much more as it shows you why you are doing what you are doing and how it applies to today.

Would we recommend this product?  YES!!!  Without one inkling of hesitation!  My thought: run quick to your nearest computer and buy it NOW!  *grin*  The bundle we received sells for $139, and in my opinion – is worth every penny!!!

They also have Latin curriculum for the younger ones…
K – 3rd: Song School for Latin
Then there is Latin for Children A, B, C

They also have items for Spanish, French, Greek, Bible, Poetry, etc.

As an added bonus, check out Headventure Land – from the site:

FlashDash is a speedy quizzing game, that tests your vocabulary skills in your language of choice. Chart Challenge tests your knowledge of important charts, such as conjugation tables, in a jigsaw puzzle game. In both games you race against the clock to reach your high score, and to see if you can beat the other students’ high scores!

There are more pictures I took, but they are on the old computer and I’m not up for getting them off at the moment *wink* so these will just have to do…

The “S” Word

Photobucket

Can you believe I have the “s” word so boldly placed on my blog?  HA!  If you know me, you believe it.  LOL

The reason I put these three as I did, is because they work together.  This is how the Lord has it mapped out within His word.  The husband is to sumit to Christ, the wife is to submit to her husband and the child(ren) are to submit to the parents.  They all work together – if one stops, they all stop – well, they may not stop, but it will cause some serious derailment. Additionally, I have hearts as the dots because submission has to come from the heart.  It is also felt as love by those to whom you are submitting.

I know submission isn’t a very popular word – and it often brings the rolling of eyes, the crossing of arms or the huff that says, “I’m not listening to this.”  However, I would like to share about this in a way that will allow you to breath freely – to realize that it is a beautiful word WHEN FOLLOWED AS THE LORD SAYS.  Submission, as mapped out by Him, actually brings feelings of security and peace.  It helps things in life run smoothly.

When the husband submits to Christ, he is putting himself, and his sin, aside.  When the wife submits to the husband, she is doing the same.  And the same with the child(ren).  When we put sin aside, this gives room for the Lord to come in.  And when the Lord is there – things are good!

Submission, at least for me, seems to be a constant “give and take”.  I continue to try and take it back and be in control (because we, as women, like to do that…and the Lord knew that) but again, I find things run MUCH better when I keep my mouth shut and let my husband lead.  My husband is a VERY GOOD spiritual leader in our family – this is NEVER an area I try to “cross the line” – but there are many others where I feel I “know more” or am “better able to handle” the situation.  I am learning though that I need to step back and let him lead the way.  Not only am I learning to step back, but my dh is learning to step forward.  This is a learning process for both of us.  One that we feel led by the Lord to follow and one we can feel His presence when we are moving in the right direction.

Everyone in our family is still learning this process but we are all willing to try.  THIS is what is important.  That mixed with the help of the Lord and we’re good to go!

How about you?  What do you think of the “s” word?

Stop by and read all the articles submitted…you will feel encouraged refreshed afterward!

Have a wonderfully blessed day!

The Homeschool Post Homeschool Swap

I saw a blog post about doing a swap with a fellow homeschool blogger over at The Homeschool Post and thought it sounded like a neat idea ~ so I signed up!  What exactly is the homeschool swap?  First I signed up, a little later I received an email with a bunch of questions (favorite color, favorite kitchen utensils, homeschool items needed, etc), then was assigned a “blog swap sister” via email.  Once I received her email address, I sent her an email and we chatted a little bit (shared prayer requests) and that was it ~ then I received this (below) in the mail from her.  What fun!!!  Encouragement for homeschooling, blogging moms – could it get any better????

  Photobucket

What did I get?  Well, the question SHOULD be…what DIDN’T I get?  LOL  She sent us a lot of stuff!  The maximum that is to be spent (before postage) is $15, but I’m not sure she didn’t exceed that.  If she didn’t, she sent some items she got some good deals on!  :)  Let me tell you about my absolute FAVORITE item she sent…Todd Wilson’s Lies Homeschool Moms Believe book…uh yea…PERFECT GIFT FOR ANY HOMESCHOOL MOM!!!!

So, part of The Homeschool Post swap…we are to mention our wonderful fellow blogger’s blog and give appreciation to them for their wonderful gifts.  Think that will be hard to do?  I THINK NOT!  :)

My swap sister was Jamie over at Mama2-n-n-a.

I enjoyed participating in this blog swap – if this sounds like something you would want to do, you are IN LUCK because the next one is April 8th – WOOT!  Visit The Homeschool Post to find out more.

Have a wonderfully blessed day!

The Homeschool Mother’s Journal ~ 3/25/11

The Homeschool Mother's Journal
This post is linked to The Homeschool Mother’s Journal over at The Homeschool Chick. Make sure you hop over to see what other homeschool mom’s have to say!

In my life this week…

DS3 was having some issues so I finally decided to call his doctor, who was out of the office that day but wanted him seen, so they sent us to Express Care.  Now what does “Express” mean?  Dictionary.com says “direct or fast”…well, we all know that places such as “Express Care” are NOT fast.  So, that was our Wednesday.  LOL  Good news…it was something “normal” (aka something we didn’t have to go to the hospital and have xrays, scans, etc done) in which the doc gave him some meds and he’s on the mend.  Woot!

In our homeschool this week…

Unfortunately we were not very focused this week…not a good thing.  But we are excited that today is week 7 (of 10) of our group homeschool classes…we always enjoy those!

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

Monday evening ds14 had a 4-H meeting.  He is the chair of “Career Night” so they had to discuss their plans.  Wednesday was Express Care then church in the evening.  Last night was ds14 Upward Basketball Awards Ceremony – fun, fun, fun!  He is in 8th Grade, so this is his last year.  (Sad…but we were told it would be ok if him and dh wanted to coach together next year.  Woot!)  Sunday is a cousins first birthday party so we’ll be enjoying that after church.

My favorite thing this week was…

visiting with my aunt at Express Care.  Her and my cousin were “in town” so stopped by to help us “pass the time”.  It was nice, and appreciated!

What’s working/not working for us…

We started two new curriculum items this week…Analytical Grammer and Diana Waring’s Ancient Civilizations…so we’ll see how those work for us…

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have…

None at the moment…or well, too many to list…LOL

A photo, video, link, or quote to share…

If you do not have Todd Wilson’s book Lies Homeschooling Moms Believe…I *highly* recommend it!  I received it as part of a swap and LOVE IT!

Here is to a day full of blessings to you all!

One Less Need ~ Review & Giveaway

Photobucket
We had the opportunity to review…toothbrushes…yes! toothbrushes!  But these are NO ORDINARAY toothbrushes…for a couple reasons:  First, they are AWESOME!  We were given several different types, at least one for every family member (yep, they have them for ALL AGES!)…and we all LOVE THEM!  They really made our teeth feel clean and dh really liked the tongue scrubber on his (too much info?  sorry!  LOL).  Second, these toothbrushes are super special because…when you buy one – ONE IS SENT TO ANOTHER FOR FREE!!!  Yep, you heard that right, ONE IS SENT TO ANOTHER FOR FREE!!  Ever heard of such a thing?  Me neither!  But…HOW AWESOME!

Photobucket
The website is One Less Need and this is what the owners had to say:

“I know it’s not real prominent on our site yet but the toothbrushes that will be given away will be given to Mercy Ships. They are an organization that works in West Africa. They have a large boat that has been converted into a floating hospital and they dock for 10 months at a time. Not only do they do surgeries onboard the ship but they go out into the communities and teach the people about dental hygiene (many have never seen a toothbrush before), help them get clean water, teach them about agriculture and how to make the crops get a good yield, and teach them how to run a business. After they leave, they send people back at a later date to make sure that things are still running smoothly, and if not, they help them solve those issues.”

So…WOW!  I mean, you need a toothbrush anyway, right?  So WHY NOT help others at the same time?

Toothbrushes range from $4.25 (single kids) to $17.99 (supreme adult 1 year subscription); the toothbrushes are shipped in individual plastic pouches.
Side note: toothpaste and dental floss will be coming soon too!

I would also like to mention that my experiences with this company left me with a professional feel; I was given the impression that things are in order and ready to go.  Here are links where you can learn more about the company and it’s owners.
