Tot School ~ 1/31/11

One of his FAVORITE things to do it glue…he LOVES to glue.� Here he is gluing different items in their appropriate places (airplane in the air, car on the road, etc.)

Bible in 90 Days ~ Week 4 Check-in

Hi everyone! I am a little behind (a few days) but am not letting that detere me from continuing to read and enjoy this process.

Through the reading I’m doing I can’t help but see what a violent and sinful being we are – and how loving and forgiving our Father is. But also, how He is just and follows thru with what He says. What has stuck out for quite some time now is how the Lord says, “If you follow My ways, I will take care of you” (paraphrase). How hard is that? SIMPLE! Yet, many (including myself today) continue to stray…on purpose, or not.

Another thing that has me thinking is how the Lord would stick with his covanents, but then curse the next generation because of something done. Still thinking on this one…

Again, let me say – I am really enjoying this! A BIG HUGE “Thank you!!!” to Amy over at Mom’s Toolbox for putting this together!

TOS Crew Review ~ City Creek Press / Times Alive

We had the opportunity to review City Creek Press’ Times Alive software taken from Times Tables the Fun Way. City Creek Press is owned and operated by what sounds like an amzing woman: Judy Liautaud. She came up with the Times Tables the Fun Way idea while working at Sylvan Learning Centers. Studies show that students, on average, retain 95% of the facts learned thru Judy’s methods. AMAZING!

So, what are her methods? They are combining visual images, songs and stories with the number facts. This program works the times tables for zero thru nine. There are videos, coloring pages, songs and “tests”.

When they enter the program, this is the first screen they see. It shows where they have been, where they are and where they are going. They can also click on ANY of the items, they do not have to go in order (although it makes more sense to do it that way).

Although I believe some of this was a little “young” for ds14, I also believe the concept has helped improve his times tables! When asked, DS14 said he learned there are creative ways to find out answers. Love this! He often doesn’t have anything to say about the programs we review…he didn’t hesitate on this one. B.e.a.-u-ti-ful!

The Times Alive Software costs $48.95 for CD or $44.94 downloaded. I think this is a little high for one child, but if you have several I believe it would be an investment well spent.

DVD Review ~ Adventures in Booga Booga Land

We had the opportunity to review Adventures in Booga Bogga Land: Squid Sushi Loses His Marbles.� They are stories from the Parables of Jesus.� This particular DVD had these three stories: Squid Sushi Loses His Marbles, The Parable of the Lost Pearl and The Flaming Monkey.� In looking on the website, there appears to be 26 total episodes available.� Each episode is about 15 minutes long.

Fortunately the scripture verses for each story taken from is provided on the back cover as that is about the only thing that is biblical about these shows.� They *ARE* entertaining and my boys enjoyed them but there is no reference to scripture, God, the Bible or anything else within them.� The stories themselves are hard to “pull” something biblical from as well.� However, they would provide a method of talking with your children about the principles discussed within those scriptures.

Would we recommend them to others?� That depends on what you are looking for.� If you want a good cartoon for your children to watch – these would be them…there is nothing in them that is inappropriate.� If you are looking for something Christian based, I would probably not recommend these.

The price for the DVD is $12.99 – which in my opinion is a little high for a 45 minute video.
